Description
The Design Review Board (DRB) is an independent agency of Reston Association responsible for reviewing exterior alterations/improvements of properties within Reston Association.
Responsibilities
Interpret, administer and render decisions involving the Design Covenants in the Reston Deed of Dedication
Propose amendments to the Design Guidelines to the Board of Directors
Developing administrative and application procedures
Review and render decisions on applications for improvements and alterations to property
Consider and decide appeals from applicants and affected parties
Consider requests for temporary exception permits
Composition
The DRB is composed of nine Reston Association members who serve for three-year terms. Six of the members must be professionals in the area of design (architects, landscape architects or planners), while no professional requirements are needed for the other three members. Appointments are made by the RA Board of Directors.
Individuals who seek appointment to the DRB should have a general interest in the design concepts on which the community was established and be motivated by a desire to serve fellow Members of the community. Experience in conducting public meetings and working with people is helpful in this role.

Meetings
The DRB meets on the first, second and fourth Tuesday evening of each month in groups of three (panels) at 5:30 p.m., and as the full DRB once a month on the third Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. Currently meeting are taking place online via Zoom.
