Hook Road Recreation Area Project

Hook Road Recreation Area, developed in 1965, and located along Fairway Drive and Ring Road, is one of Reston Association’s most popular parks. The location provides multiple recreational activities including baseball, soccer, tennis, and basketball. In 2017, the RA Parks Recreation Advisory Committee (PRAC), endorsed the full facility enhancement of the park as part of a new capital project full facility enhancement process. A process where capital improvements are considered holistically rather than by individual assets. The park was selected due to its comprehensive list of available amenities and its schedule for upcoming capital reinvestments. A working group was established in 2018 and conducted a yearlong community engagement process to develop a master plan for the park. In late 2018, the Reston Association Board of Directors (RA BOD) approved the master plan developed by the working group and directed staff to move forward with the architecture and engineering required to submit a minor site plan to Fairfax County. The project focuses on safety, permanent bathrooms, accessibility, and open space enhancements. Additional project details can be found in the important documents section of this webpage. The site plan is currently being reviewed by Fairfax County and following that process, a review by the Reston Association Design Review Board (DRB) will be done before final RA BOD approval to begin construction efforts.
